BORDER CROSSING

You MUST have either a current passport or passcard to enter Canada and return to the US beginning June 1, 2009

U.S. Passport - This is an internationally recognized travel document that verifies a person's identity and nationality. It is accepted for travel by air, land and sea.

U.S. Passport Card - This is a limited-use travel document that fits in your wallet and costs less than a U.S. Passport. It is only valid for travel by land and sea.

Same rules to enter Canada. A passport or passcard only identifies you as a US resident/citizen.
It does not guarantee that Canada will accept you across the border.
If you have a prior DUI or criminal conviction it is best to contact Canadian immigration before you get to the border.
